Background
The Association’s work in Wales is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA Wales).
Supporting Road Safety in Wales was a key AIRSO project
for 2007 and was lead by the 2007 Chair of AIRSO Lyn
Morris who is a Road Safety Officer for Carmarthenshire County Council. The aim now is for this to become an annual event. Working with the Welsh Assembly Government and RoSPA Wales, AIRSO is seeking
to help and develop strategies with:
- Those who are involved in the practice and⁄or promotion of road safety with regard to the delivery of education and⁄or training.
- Those who have a responsibility for enforcement of road traffic law and health & safety legislation particularly appertaining to those who drive for work.
- Those who are concerned with policies and practices related to traffic management in both the Highway Authorities and the private sector.
- Those with responsibilities for developing road safety and risk management policies within the statutory and non-statutory services, commerce and industry and the voluntary sectors.
It welcomes dialogue with any of the above with a view to offering support and help in developing programmes, strategies and policies aimed at reducing casualties on the road in the principality.
AIRSO Road Safety Policy Workshops, Wales
During the early part of 2010 AIRSO is organising a series of interactive workshops in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Government, RoSPA Wales and Road Safety Wales along with the active support of the Local Authorities. The aim of these workshops is to enable those attending to effectively structure and write road safety policy. In addition it will provide ways in which organisations can evidence mitigation should something go wrong and protect themselves in terms of a prosecution.

2009 AIRSO Road Safety Conference WALES
The 2009 event was organised in association with the Welsh Assembly Government and RoSPA Wales. The theme was Fitness to Drive in a Work Related Environment and explored concerns and offered strategies to cope with drivers who undertake work related journeys whilst not fit to do so. We are also very grateful for the sponsorship of Speed Check Services and Wincanton.
The presentations from the 2009 Conference are available from our Conference
Archives page.
