Colin Pettener MBE, FAIRSO passed away on 11th June 2018 after a short illness. Colin was a long-standing member of AIRSO and served on the Council ofManagement as both Chair and Vice Chair. Colin managed the organisation and running of the annual AIRSO Blue Light User Conferences. Anyone who met him will remember his easy-going style and sense of humour. Behind that was years of experience and knowledge related to road safety which Colin used to good effect making a huge difference in the business area that was his passion.
Colin was a Road Safety Consultant with the TTC Group having previously been County Road Safety Officer in Shropshire. He was instrumental in the introduction of the National Driver Improvement Scheme, following the successful pilot project in Devon and Cornwall and was the Founding Chairman of the Association of National Driver Improvement Scheme Providers (ANDISP).
In 2002 Colin was awarded a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for his contribution to the National Driver Improvement Scheme and in 2004 he received the Linda Chalker Award from the Local Authority Road Safety Officers Association. He was awarded an MBE in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, an award he was justly very proud to have received. In 2007 the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) honoured him with an award for Distinguished Service in recognition of his outstanding contribution to road safety.
Colin Pettener was an AIRSO stalwart and we will miss the knowledge, experience, energy, enthusiasm and humour that he brought to road safety.
